Buddhist Statues

Buddhist Statues are actually representation of 'enlightened one', which is the idol of Buddhist religion. These statues are symbol of Siddhartha Gautama, the founder of Budhism. He preached that one should eliminate all cravings from life, in order to attain Nirvana, a state without any suffering. Buddha also showed the 8 fold path which lead towards attaining Nirvana. The most important role of Buddhist Statues is to convey the calm feeling, which reflect mental discipline by controlling the negative emotions of greed and fear.

Posture of Buddhist Statues:
Though Buddhist Statues represent a number of positions, one of the common ones is the Lotus Position, depicting meditation, which symbolizes the perfect balance in between tranquility and thought. In this statue, the fingers of Buddha's right hand rests lightly on the left hand fingers and both the hands are in Buddha's lap. The legs are also crossed which symbolize the Lotus position.

Laughing Buddha or Happy Buddha are also quite famous among sculptures. Though it popularly refers to a Chinese monk, Ho Tai, a number of people believe that it is actually an incarnation of Buddha, who will come to earth in future.
