The Longmen Caves Research Institute has been responsible for conducting plenty of studies related to the site of Longmen Grottoes, Henan.


According to the figures suggested by the Longmen Caves Research Institute, the place comprise 2345 caves, 43 pagodas, 2800 inscriptions and over 100, 000 Buddhist images. The origin of the caves have been traced back to the Northern Wei Dynasty and Tang Dynasty. About 60% of the caves have been attributed to the Wei Dynasty and 30% to the Tang Dynasty.
