Anthony Caro, the famous abstract sculptor is a prominent name in the field of abstract arts. His work of art is marked by assemblage of metals and various industrial objects. Anthony Caro was born on 8th March, 1924 in Surrey.
Anthony Caro received his education from the Charterhouse Public School and later Christ's College Cambridge from where he got his degree in engineering. He was admitted at Regent Street Polytechnic, now known as University of Westminster for studying sculpture. Later on he also got admission at Royal Academy Schools.
Anthony Caro's name is often associated with modernism. In 1950, he began working with Henry Moor. He was highly influenced by the constructivist artists specially David Smith, which eventually inspired him to turn his attention towards constructivist work of art. He became interested in impressive work of art with welding of prefabricated metals like I beams, meshes and steel plates. He used bold colors for his sculptures.
Sir Anthony Caro earned global popularity since 1950s. His art became popular in all corners of the world especially in USA. Caro played a vital role in influencing the next generation British sculptors with his work of art. He was a popular teacher at St Martins School of Art, which is now known by the name of Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. Caro, with his associates like Phillip King, Barry Flanagan, Bruce McLean and Richard Long made a profound impact on the youngsters. Anthony Caro also got the opportunity to work at Bennington College.Caro gave a new dimension to the Abstract and Constructivist art which was earlier pioneered by Brancusi and Smith. His sculptures are innovative as most of them are self supporting.

In the year 1980, a new wave was witnessed in Anthony Caro's work. The sculptor turned to Greek classics and mythology for inspiration. In 1980s much of his work comprised figures from Greek classics. The eminent sculptor also tried installation pieces, some of the which earned international fame. Sea Music, the most prominent of them all is placed at Poole situated in Dorset. The sculptor was awarded and conferred honors for his wonderful work of art. Anthony Caro's 80th birthday in 2005 was celebrated in a grand style with an elaborate retrospective exhibition, which took place in Tate Gallery.
