Philip King

Philip King, well known for his innovative art and sculpture, was one of the distinguished artists of the 1960s. Philip King's work came to limelight when New Generation English sculptors have emerged with Henry Moore's exclusive work of art.

Phillip King and his contemporaries Anthony Caro, David Annesley, William Tucker and Michael Bolus marked the beginning of a new era in the 1960s. The sculptures of these famous artists though had individuality of their own, shared many common features. All of them worked on certain forms which were uncommon in the art and sculpture before. Besides they used light synthetic materials in their work. Their sculptures were also marked by usage of plenty of colors.

Phillip King, one of the famous sculptures of his age, has been designated as the most famous and eminent artist still alive. He is known for his inventive and intelligent work of art, and the most characteristic feature of his sculptures his art is never repetitive. Each of his sculptures is unique in their own way. In the initial phase of 1960, his work of art had an inclination towards being poetic. However in the following years his work became more stressed and thoughtful.

Phillip King, spent quite a number of years in Tunisia. Later on he went some years in Paris before getting admission in Cambridge where he enriched his knowledge on modern languages. All these left a deep impact on his sculptures. Each of his work of art is unique and complete in itself. He inventive work of art set an example for the following generations. King's initial works were marked by playfulness and extensive use of colors. Genghis Khan, one such sculpture left a profound impact on the mind of the viewers. His another work Rosebud also left the viewers spell bound. He used a vibrant pink skin with a green lining to create an excellent piece of work, which resembles a beautiful woman.
Phillip King's initial sculptures left the viewers mesmerized. The viewers often admitted that a new and third dimension was prominent in these arts. But in the later stage of his life King's artistic work had more depth. The horizon and scope also increased in this art. He combined slate and elm, chain raisin and steel in order to give a new dimension to his sculptures. His work no longer confined to Britain only but spread to Germany, Belgium, Holland, Australia and Japan also.

Phillip King has gained worldwide popularity for his unique work of arts. Several honors have been conferred for his innovative art. Hayward Gallery in London organized a retrospective on his work of art, which was visited and appreciated by hundreds of people.
