Tian Tan Buddha (bronze statue)

The Tian Tan Buddha (bronze statue) is known to be a large statue of Buddha that reached its completion in the year 1993. This bronze statue in Hong Kong is known to be located at Ngong Ping, Lantau Island. This statue of Buddha is known to be the tallest outdoor bronze Buddha in the world and is depicting a seated posture. This Buddha is also known as the Big Buddha. This statue is one of the 5 largest statues of Buddha in China. This Buddha is known to sit on a lotus throne which is located over a 3 platform altar. This statue is surrounded by 8 miniature statues which represent the gods. The Tian Tan Buddha (bronze statue) is known to be 34 meters high and is known to weigh 250 tonnes. Prior to 2007 it was considered as the world’s tallest among the bronze Buddha statues which are also known as the outdoor bronze seated Buddha.

The image of this Buddha in Hong Kong appears to be highly peaceful and elegant. This Buddha is known to face the north which is distinct among the other statues of Buddha as they all face towards the south. The three floors at the bottom of the Buddha’s statue are known as the The Hall of Universe, The Hall of Benevolent Merit and The Hall of Remembrance and one of the most remarkable features in the interiors of this is a keepsake of Sakyamuni which features some of his cremated remains. In the show room there are huge bell which is carved with images of Buddha and it was initially designed to ring after every 7 minutes indicating the release of human vexations those many times a day.

This Buddha statue in Hong Kong was constructed by the beginning of 1990 and reached completion on 29th December 1993 which is also the birthday of Sakyamuni. The statue following its completion was visited by monks from all over the world and the special visitors came from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and the United States.
